Dewstow Visitor Book

Let us know what you thought of your visit to Dewstow Gardens and Grottoes

Comments

  1. Around a year or so ago I saw a TV programme which featured the gardens and having sveral short breaks each year in nearby Tintern thought I had better visit when I was again in the area at the end of August.

Prior to the visit I knew that my disabled mother who was travellling with me and has to use a wheelchair would not be able to see the grottoes but I was hoping she would be able to see something of the surface gardens before she returned to the car to allow me to take a look at the grottoes.

When I arrived I was actually quite surprised just how much of the surface gardens were accessible. I think you do yourself a disservice by stating "There is very limited access for wheelchairs in the garden" My mother was able to see around 75 to 80% of the surface garden and thoroughly enjoyed it. During the second part of the afternoon I went off to look at the grottoes and found them mindblowing! I will try and return either later this year or next year.

  2. Your website gave me a good idea of what I will find at the gardens to see and do....
The actual experience is exciting, beguiling and absolutely delightful!

My 2 children (9 & 11yrs), myself and a friend turned up with a picnic and a readiness to explore, to see a few ponds and tunnels but we spent a solid 4hrs looking in and around every nook and cranny Dewstow has to offer...

We were all completely captivated for hours, forgetting everthing outside of Dewstow for a little while! What a wonderful place, will definately be visiting again - Well done and thank you! :)

  3. Dewstow was mentioned on a TV program so we thought we would have a look. Got there early and loved it. The gardens looked great and the tunnels are out of this world. We actualy visited in october on an overcast day and it started withfine rain, but that did nothing to dampen our enthousiasm for the garden. We will go back to have another day there all being well in the summer, only problem we live in Yorkshire and it's a bit of a drive.

See you again soon. Dave and Jill

  5. When we drove through the gates and seen the front gardens, i thought hmm, nice, then i seen the entrance fee and thought, thats a bit steep, but still wanted to see what i thought would be a few underground rooms with some plastic flowers scattered around, but OMG,,,, what a marvel to witness, if the entrance fee were triple, i'd still pay it knowing what i do now and appreciating the upkeep costs.
Absolutely spectacular !!!!!!!,,,,, one could easily spend 5 or 6 hours there , so much to see. Wonderful day out, will have to go back to see the summer flowers and autumn too (today is the spring selection) A tip to garden lovers, get the season ticket, then you can enjoy the full year of this beautiful place. 10 out of 10 to all the people at this magical garden.

  8. Have been wanting to visit for a long time - so glad we did! Had a lovely time - the planting and maintenance is excellent in what has proved to be a very difficult gardening year (rain, rain, rain). Grottoes and tunnels superb! Oh! and the young lady in the coffee shop was delightful! We shall visit again and tell others to do so!

  9. My husband's family lived in Dewstow between mid 40s-50s. I have only viewed the website video - plus, of course, seen personal family photographs of the house - but even the virtual experience has provoked much nostalgia. I hope many, many more continue to enjoy Dewstow's heritage.

Far exceeded our high expectations. Perhaps the finest gardens we have visited, and that's a lot. The planting is superb and all in such good order - The Grottoe's amazing. Jean & Michael Kerrigan, Lincs
